2021 Lapostolle Apalta Red Reviews

This wine is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 10% Carménère, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Syrah.

93 Pointz James Suckling

“Some dark olives to the mixture of red and black fruit. Cherries, plums, and a dose of grilled spice. Medium-bodied, juicy, and pretty linear with even tannins.”

93 Pointz Vinous

“The 2021 Red Blend Apalta is 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 10% Carménère, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Syrah from Apalta, Colchagua, and was aged in used barrels. An intense purple in color. The attractive nose offers plum jam, pink pepper, and hints of cinnamon. In the mouth, it’s both opulent and juicy with finely grained tannins. The fairly concentrated palate flows expansively before the easygoing, lingering finish. A ripe red given the cool year.”

91 Pointz Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

“The blend of the 2021 Apalta is quite different from the 2019 I tasted last time, with 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 10% Carmenere, 7% Cabernet Franc and 6% Syrah. It has a lot less Cabernet and more Merlot but still with a pristine and pure Bordeaux nose, herbal, spicy, and peppery. It's medium to full-bodied but fine-boned with elegant tannins. It's impressive, and even more so when you look at the price tag.”

89 Pointz Wine Spectator

“A fleshy textured red, with a nice floral, red currant underpinning, this picks up mineral and plum details that integrate into chewy tannins on the finish.”

“Apalta - not to be confused with the much more expensive Clos Apalta - is the bodega's entry point cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon with 46% Merlot, Carmenère, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. Redolent of Mediterranean herbs and blackcurrant leaf, with a fresh finish.”

“Fresh, composed, and subtle with a classy and refined cigar note to the black plums and some blue fruit. A hint of chili chocolate, too. A medium-to full-bodied red with very bright fruit and very fine-grained tannins. Very complete, with poise, class, and power. 65% cabernet sauvignon with syrah, carmenere, merlot and a touch of garnacha.”

“An introduction to Lapostolle" is how winemaker Andrea León describes this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 32% Syrah, Carmenère, Merlot, and Grenache. Well-priced, ripe and smooth, with chocolate and vanilla sweetness, layers of plush, slightly jammy fig and Asian spice flavours and a firm, structured finish.”

2019 Lapostolle Apalta Red Reviews

This wine is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Syrah, 7% Carmenere, and 5% Merlot.

93 Pointz James Suckling

“A soft, open red with currant, sweet-tobacco and cherry aromas and flavors. Medium body. Fresh finish. Blend of cabernet sauvignon, carmenere, merlot and syrah.”

91 Pointz Robert Parkers’ Wine Advocate

“There are some new wines (at least to me), including the 2019 Apalta, a red blend created to celebrate the creation of the Apalta appellation in 2018 with 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Syrah, 7% Carmenere, and 5% Merlot that fermented in stainless steel and matured in oak (70%) and stainless steel (30%) barrels for 14 months. It's quite classical, combining ripeness, power, and elegance, concentrated but fresh and with aging potential, remarkable for the price.”

“Formerly labeled as Le Rouge, this shows the increasing focus on the Apalta name and origin at the winery. Aged in used barrels from top wine Clos Apalta, this comes from the riper blocks on the estate. Plush, textured, and aromatic, it’s a figgy, firmish blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 33% Syrah, Carmenère, and Petit Verdot.”

2018 Lapostolle Apalta Red Reviews

This wine is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah, and 10% Carmenere.

92 Pointz James Suckling

“This is a fresh, attractive red with currant, spice, and walnut character. Medium body. Savory and spicy finish.” (Previously labeled as Le Rouge 2018)

90 Pointz Vinous

“A tight, intense scarlet, this red from Colchagua gives off black and red fruits with an attractive expression that refrains from overdoing the style. Dry on the palate with moderate freshness and fine, slightly reactive tannins, it is bold, easy to drink, and rich. A simple, affable wine.” (Previously labeled as Le Rouge 2018)

“Sourced from granite soils in the Apalta Valley, Le Rouge is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 25% Syrah and Carmenère. Fruit focused and floral, it has appealing texture, bright raspberry, mint and cassis flavours and enough acidity for balance.” (Previously labeled as Le Rouge 2018)
